Canine nosework is one of the fastest growing dog sports that is inclusive of all dogs, regardless of age, breed or physical ability. Based on the work of k9 detection dogs that are trained to sniff out drugs & explosives, nosework involves teaching your dog to search for and locate particular odors that you hide. Nosework relies on your dog’s natural instincts and provides a fun, mentally stimulating, low impact activity where your dog’s incredible sense of smell is the star. In this 6-wk beginners class, we will introduce you and your dog to the fundamentals of nosework, including the basic biology that makes your dog such a good sniffer, how to build and maintain search drive, factors that affect odor movement, and reading your dog’s search behavior.
